My wife and I have been to Culebra twice in the past three years. One of our favorite memories is the almost daily hikes we made to snorkle at Carlos Rosario beach. You have to follow the fence-line that starts at the Admin building at the Flamenco Beach Campground. There is a break in the fence @ 50 yds up the fence-line. The 45 min hike follows an old road that first takes you to Playa Tamarindo Grande. The reef at Tamarindo Grande is spectacular in its own right. Many different types of coral and fans. Lots of fish, and occasional eels and lobsters. The reef at Carlos Rosario starts from a triangular shaped sandy bottom break that extends from the shore to a point @ 100 yrds out. We liked to follow the right side (when facing seaward) of the triangle out to a spot that drops off to wall of coral @ 40 ft deep. Many big fish and beautiful coral. We made this hike @ 10 times, and most of the time we were the only ones there. If you are staying in town there are vans that run continuously to Playa Flamenco from early in the morning until late afternoon. If you are not into snorkling, Zoni Beach is a beautiful place to just have a picnic and play in the waves and Punta Soldado has the best sunsets.
