How late do bars stay open on weekends and during the week? What are the best drinking establishments in Dewey at night? Are campfires allowed on the beach?

campfires I'm fairly sure are a really BIG no.

places seem to stay open as long as there are customers, but outside of Mamacita's and some nights el Batey there's not much "nightlife" I like to hang out at Dinghy Dock, but it's too laid back to call it nightlife per se. Happyh Landing stays open late and has a pool table IIRC attracts a slightly edgier crowd than most.

The nightlife would be 16 miles to the east on the next island over.

Haha, understood. By "nightlife" I guess I meant places to enjoy a few (or more) cervezas after dinner... I have read that Mamacita's and possibly several other restaurants/bars in town are closed during the month of October. Is this accurate?

never been in October, but that (I thought) was sort of the start or at least dress rehearsal for 'high season'

I'm often wrong about many things.

Geronimo - that's the best description ever!

Ryan - some places do close in October. To my knowledge, Dinghy Dock is not usually closed, but the Mamacitas owners do take an extended vacation this time of year. Susie's is open as long as there are customers around. She tends to close during the slack times. Best that you call directly to find out.

There's a new late night bar with a small menu at the ferry dock - Gretchen's. Right next to On Island and Culebra Divers.

Happy Diving!
Debbie

My favorite nightlife is me, a 6 pack of Presidente, my binocs, and a clear view of the stars of the southern sky (if it's cloudy, find a high spot and look at the lights of St. Thomas). Afro-Caribbean jazz on the iPod.

Doug has it about right. I might differ on the libation or the music, but, yeah. cause it really is all about the beach and the water. at night it can be about being away from all the light pollution/distraction of the mainland.
