visiting culebra in september

Me and my girlfriend are thinking of visiting the island for a couple of days in the beginning september. We don't have a lot to spend on the accomodation so we are looking for a more affordable place to stay (since we are not going to spend a lot of time inside). I have looked at some places online and the cheapest i found was hotel kokomo. Can anyone recommend another affordable place to stay on the island.
Do i have to book a place a lot of time in advance or can i make the reservation just a week before arriving?

You should look into Palmetto Guest House. We haven't actually stayed there, but know the couple that own it and have visited. It is very clean and Terrie & Mark are very nice & helpful, not to mention a convenient location, close enough to walk to town, markets and even Flamenco if you want.

Also check out Culebra Vacation Planners, they have a wide variety of rentals available, some are very reasonable.

If both of those options are too high for you, have you considered camping?
