Is a day trip to Culebra worth it??
Culebra, Puerto Rico

I am going to be staying briefly in PR for a wedding in Fajardo. I'm going to stay in Old San Juan before heading to Fajardo then have a little bit of free time - like an entire day.

Basically, I have heard great things about this place and I am wondering if it would be worth it to do a day trip?? We will be staying at the El Conquiestador which has its own private island so would it probably make more sense to relax there and stay closer to home? And if the day trip is worth it to Culebra, what are some major highlights that I should hit up on my day trip??

Also, does anyone know how long the ferry takes?

Much Thanks!!!!

The ferry ride takes about an hour and a half. When it is real busy you can end up standing in line that long to buy tickets in Fajardo, at least for the first ferry in the morning. I'm told that you can buy tickets ahead of time, but we have not been successful at that in our two trips to Culebra.

If you only have a day I would stay at the Conquiestador and relax. I would take their water taxi out to Palamino Island. It's beautiful with a nice beach and swimming area. The resort has a nice pool and restuarants. When you have more time I would suggest going to Culebra.

On the other hand, if you'd prefer a taste of Culebra, consider flying from Ceiba, early morning and returning or flying to San Juan last flight in the evening or first flight, next morning.

I honestly don't think that a day allows one to begin to savor Culebra.

If you take the ferry, even less so.

But, to each their own.

Of course, more than a day is needed, but it is worth the effort to scout it out for a future, longer visit.
