Culebra MJ

When do you normally have your cart open? I will be in Culebra October 18th-26th and don't want to miss you! Somehow we missed you on our last trip, although I did get a picture of the famous cart! My family and friends all got a laugh out of your famous saying!

Can't wait to meet you!

The best time to catch me open is between around 9 a.m. and 1 or 2 p.m. After that, it's just way too hot to be out there. Of course, sometimes it's way too hot anyway, but being a Real Woman/Girl after the Blue Fairy had pity on me, I do sweat, adding to my Island Woman ambiance... Oh, include in *closed time* if it's raining. If it rains a little, I'll stay. Sideways rain, you'll find me at Dinghy Dock.

I love my famous saying! But, as I tell many, it is merely a happy circumstance of buying the cart after Monika (of Mamacita's) came up with the saying. Her husband Zach told her she really needed to post times when she'd be there and the infamous Open Somedays Closed Others was the result. Bless you Monika, again! and also, big thanks to Mark the Painter, who keeps the sign spiffy looking, each year creating a new and shiny look on the old theme. Just in case you want a head's up on what will be hip and cool on the fashion scene this year, think STRIPES! And that's all I'm going to say about that!

See you in October!

news to her I guess.

No, Richard, she really DOES exist. I visited her last January at her cart and bought several things that were difficult to find elsewhere on the island: a stethoscope, hip waders, four live hamsters, six 55mm hex bolts, a '68 Camaro transmission, cinnamon buns, and 3D glasses.

I literally could have spent DAYS at her cart and barely scratched the surface.

Too bad you missed the X-ray binoculars I got in the day you left, they are all gone now but they were amazing! I still have a few aluminum Land Rover bodies, but I sold two today so probably won't be any left when you next arrive...but the Chinese bird nest appetizers are arriving by air tomorrow, would you like me to ship them (bird spit only holds up so long)?

Truth is, I don't exist. I live in Nebraska and just write this stuff for the fun of it, because hey, what else can you do for fun in winter in Nebraska (please, all you Nebraska folks, write in and let me know!). But I have an awesome mailing list that I have a sign up for on the cart I rent. It's never *open* ha ha, fooled ya! but you can sign up for my very special mailing list of things I never sell. Mort is my rep. Anything that goes wrong, please email him. It's all his fault.

MJ wondered, "what else can you do for fun in winter in Nebraska "

I thought you'd never ask:

MJ, thank you for the props.

For those who haven't been to MJ's cart, you really must visit. It's very much like the tent episode in one of the Harry Potter books --- from the outside it looks small, but once you're inside it puts the Wal-Mart distribution centers to shame.

The only thing you have to be wary of is that everything is sold AS IS.

I failed to test the 1950's-era spectograph before lugging it home to Florida, only to find that the images were bascially non-useable due to an improper diffraction pattern. Can you imagine? But it was my own fault. MJ clearly posts "No Returns on Automotive Parts, Medical Equipment, or Lingerie".

All images seen on Culebra tend to be diffracted on arriving home. I've tried and tried to get that across...but does anyone listen? Nooooooo.

What cart? Where? Or is it one of those "if you see it, you know it's the one" type situations?

Plus, I need a stick of old Server RAM for a Compaq Proliant server... Do you carry computer parts? If you can get parts for an old camaro with MJ, surely old RAM for an old server can be easily obtained???

Yes, it's the if you see it, etc situation.

The question on parts will be forwarded to my parts' managers, Frank, Doug, Mort and Richard. They will be happy to deal with you.

DaGenester, I did a recent inventory and MJ does not have the part you need. Apparently there was a run on them a couple months back, and we decided not to restock.

Instead we're focusing on other things, which I'm not at liberty to reveal until the contracts have been signed by all NATO members. Belgium (the pompous asses) have been a sticking point yet again. MJ always seems to bring them in line eventually, but she really shouldn't have to waste her time dealing with them. I mean, their GDP is lower than Sweden's, for crissakes. I can't begin to tell you how frustrating they are to deal with.

"Parts Manager"?

Wow, I appreciate the promotion.
Can I have Mort's corner office in the cart overlooking the bay?

No fair, Frank. Just because I've been spending so much time in the basement warehouse doesn't mean that I won't be using my office again. And it wasn't easy to get that office. It required........ well............ never mind. But suffice to say that I won't give it up easily.

"...give it up easily."

Isn't that how you got the corner office in the first place? ;-)

If not, I am happy to return to my duties as MJ Cart Forklift Operator. Allows me to bug out a wee bit early to see Felo at the Hotel Puerto Rico rather than stay overtime like you management types.

MJ, do you not control your employees? Observe how much internal disharmony there is! Much animosity... I thought the islands were all laid back n stuff....

My lads are in need of no control. This is called the open air style of management. When the rubber hits the road (and I mean that literally), they all rally round.

Since they all know the most important aspect of their IWC position is to have me laughing, they all get a bonus...next year.

while I'm surprised and sort of honored that this work of fiction remembers me, I refuse to answer questions (the phone just rings and rings on the "other days") and as far as digital media goes, the only thing moving right now are Syquest drives and 5.25" floppies. although a few prime TRS-80's (cassette tape storage) should be available soon.

oddly the largest customers are the Smithsonian pests. they really get down my collar.

I know what you mean, Richard. It seems like half the things in the Smithsonian are from MJ's cart. Probably the biggest headache was the Seinfeld puffy shirt. I'll never forget how tough that was to negotiate.

Just an update...the cart has been moved (& closed) due to the bridge repair and the fact that as of early June, I will be off island until the end of September. Looking forward already to being back and back in business...if you can call what I do business, no offense Managerial Team - thanks for turning off the lights, guys, but who forgot to lock the basement trapdoor? The jacuzzi is full of mozzies!

Enjoy Maine. It is a beautiful state with wonderful people and some of the best seafood anywhere. Be sure to go to the coast. Very different than Culebra, but very beautiful. End of September the fall colors should be at their peak. Breathtaking. Then, get the hell out of there before winter!!!

I'll be right ON the coast! The place I'll be working is literally a few feet away from the water...yippee! And looking forward to the food, the land, the everything different. I'll just be there until the end of August, then heading out West to see my children for September and then home again home again, very ready, I'm sure!
