As several others have noted, you can snorkel directly from the beach at Melones. My husband snorkeled there several times last year, as it is easy to get to by bike if you are in town. Carlos Rosario also offers great snorkeling, and the bike ride plus short hike make access pretty easy. If you camp at Flamenco then you just have the hike over the hill to get to Carlos Rosario and Tamarindo. Punto Soldado is good for snorkeling also, but the last part of the bike ride is rough.

Dick and Cathie rent bikes for $17 a day, and we were pleased with them last year. Dick met us at the ferry dock and gave us a ride to the place we were renting, plus a quick tour of town.

We walked through the campground at Flamenco and it looked nice, but since we didn't camp others can give you much better advice I'm sure.
