Hello everyone,

I ama bit of a newby and have just started researching my trip to PR for this summer. I am wondering if anyone can tell me if I would be able to rent a car on the main island and then ferry it across to Culebra?
Any information would be greatly appreciated.
thanks!

We just returned from Culebra. Rented a car in San Juan and parked it at the ferry in Fajardo for $5 a day. Rented a jeep on Culebra from Carlos' Jeeps. He was great. Don't go the scooter route. Some of the roads are pretty washed out and dangerous.

I've heard nothing but Problems with people trying to bring their rental cars over. On top of that The ferry ride if also not the most pleasant experience I recommend flying. It's only a 30 minute flight from SanJuan, I think I paid $105.00 for a round trip ticket on Flamenco Air, well worth it. Their are also two jeep rental places accross from the airport. I also like to stay at the Palmetto Guest House there website explains all about them, the island and how to get here. Hope you have a great trip.

i dont think the car rental companies allow you to take the car on the ferry.
besides that, the cargo ferry isnt meant as a commuter ferry for your car. its meant for business, mostly. people that take their car over or back are usually doing business, filling up the vehicle with groceries or stuff from home depot. the rest is trucks with supplies and so on.

and it is very difficult to get a reservation. youre not likely to get over.

and dont rent a car and park it at the ferry. unless it is for one day.
its only $5 to park but you are still paying the daily rental. while it sits in a lot. that doesnt make much financial sense.

you can however, rent a car from avis at the airport in san juan, drive it to the avis location in ceiba and drop it off there. the people at avis will then give you a ride to the ferry or airport.

make sure you look into flying from isla grande airport. its much more reasonable.

unless you will be staying in san juan, with a car, before you go to culebra. then it might make sense to drive to fajardo/ceiba.
