Hi !!

Looks like it is raining every day...how bad is it ? What about the sun ?

Also, my last 2 trips to Vieques I got stung by Jelly fish, same hand, same spot :( each time (talk of Karmic !!). Any hint on Jelly fish population in Culebra.

Thanks

1. bring MSG (easy brand name Accent)

or

2. check squeamishness and modesty at the door for the 'field' sting remedy

OT your final choice for lodging looks nice.

it rarely rains long or too hard.

My advice is to put some duct tape over the spot that always gets stung! Jellyfish can't sting through duct tape.

The rain question pops up with regularity here. On Culebra, it's rare for a storm to be large enough to cover the entire island. Or last longer than a half hour. All day or multi-day rains do happen during hurricane season, but even those are rare. It *is* the tropics, and a short shower interlude can and does occur, often accompanied by a lovely rainbow. Without them, the island turns brown and there would be no bougainvillaea or mangos.

Another thing to remember is that most weather reports you see originate on the main island of Puerto Rico. Given the size and number of the micro-climates in the Antillies, these reports are about as meaningful to Culebra as one from Nashville.

Lastly, no vacation on Culebra is complete without at least one session on the veranda with a good book and cup of coffee, gentle rain pattering on the awning.

Moon jellyfish visit occasionally but NOT often. There were a few days in early Feb that some of the beaches had them, but i persevered thru them because they were so visible and not thick, and never got stung. My friend swam into one and got a mild sting. We were wearing snorkeling gear, so they were visible at various depths. then they all disappeared and i havent seen one since. A few years ago i was snorkeling here, and smaller ones were everywhere, i mean they were thick, and i never got stung either..

I was referring to post-sting application of MSG.

field remedy: fresh urine (I know uggh) never tried it, but have heard it from too many sources to discount it.

I know first hand that the urine works! For Jellyfish and a few other tropical stingers...

Bite Ez has high amonia content and works well for small areas, like mosquitos.

A number of years a go I went to Cariacou, Granada and when we hiked in the mountains (somewhat off the trails) we got into what they call bateuche (sp?) aka chiggers.

Are they present on Culebra?

PRF,

No worries. There are clouds, and they make the sunrises and sunsets spectacular. It sometimes rains, without which there would be no signature Caribbean rainbows. The tropical sun can be stiflingly hot; a cloud is then a welcome relief. Ya gotta let go, and let it happen to you. It's delicious. Trust me.

Hola! I'd trade any sunny 23 degree day for a great, cloudy, over 80 degree day at any beach in Puerto Rico! Happy travels! J
