Rental car from SJU to ferry
Culebra, Puerto Rico

We loved Culebra so much we will be back in March with the family. The plan is to rent a car at SJU, pick up groceries, and meet the ferry in Fajardo.
I had reserved with Thrifty, but their drop-off location is near the Fajardo airport, and they quoted $30 to get me to the ferry. Is Leaseway an easier drop-off? Any tips on the best way to make this connection?
Un gabacho de Utah.
P.S. Looking forward to seeing the llamas!

I find it easier to have the rental car at the public fenced in parking and pay the $5.00 a day instead of paying the car rental "fees" for getting me somewhere or the "drop fee". Then I have my car if i want to go back over to El Yunque or explore for the day. Then I have a way back to the airport too. :) There are some really good deals on hotwire at the moment. i just booked our car on Thursday night. Have a great time!

Thanks for your suggestions. For anyone else doing this, I have contacted Leaseway and they say no extra charge for transport from their office to the ferry.

Hi Nicole & Cam - thanks for your insight. Leaving the car at the parking lot was my idea for a late March trip, nut did you leave it overnight or just during the day & return to Fajardo same day. I want to leave mine overnight to spend nights on Culebra and Vieques - for an extra fee. safe? I can't get anyone to answer at the Ferry office. Thanks BUD

We have left rental cars in the Fajardo lots several times overnight (sometimes more than one night). They are locked, gated and attended. It's safe.

Happy Diving!

Based on your post I called Thrifty, because that is who I have our rental car with. They told me they have a free shuttle to take me to the ferry. I called back a second time a few days later and talked to a differentr person and they said the same thing, it is free. My Thrifty car costs about $60 including drop off fees and Leaseway quote me something like $95.

We just returned from another fabulous trip to Culebra. We got there on Wed. Feb.4th. We parked our rental a t the ferry docks, came back over on Friday and went to El Yunque then we parked the car back at the ferry dock and went back over on Monday the 9th and picked up the rental and drove all along the eastern, southern, and western coast to Rincon. We have never had a problem leaving our rentals at the public parking. It is a great convience if you want to do any day tripping to the rainforest while staying on either Vieques or Culebra. We will be returning in July and I'm sure we will be doing the same again.

When I finally got through on the phone to Thrifty in Fajardo they said there is no charge for a ride to the ferry, but they close at 4:30 PM. We opted instead for Travel with Padin, who will stop at Costco (or another store) for an additional charge. Slightly more expensive, but lots less hassle, and locals get the money! Thanks for all your tips and suggestions.

I use AVIS.
Usually through the airport though.
But they will pick you up from the ferry too.
No extra charge.

From Fajardo to SJU its less than 50 most of the times and less than $70 from sju to fajardo(Ceiba)
