Flamenco Air Weight Limitations????
Culebra, Puerto Rico

I just booked a flight with Flamenco Air.

I was also told by someone that there is a 25 lb baggage limitation. When I asked the woman if that included everything including my 'carry on' purse, etc. She laughed nervously as if she didn't quite understand by question and then said yes.

Is this true?? Any experience out there?

What happens if you're over and they want to send your bag on a separate flight? Is this a scary proposition??

Flamenco does weigh the bags, but it looked a bit sketchy to me. For example, on the way over it wasn't a digital scale, but rather a weighted scale. I don't believe that they can tell if it's a few pounds over. They did NOT weigh my purse. If you luggage is over, you pay 40 cents a pound (or something in that range), so it's not worth it to stress over 5 or 10 pounds over.

Also be prepared NOT to sit next to the person you are going with. Remember when you gave them your weight when you reserved?? They have a list of pasangers, and arrange everyone based upon their weight. I ended up not sitting with my husband each way. On the way over, he was lucky enough to sit in the co-pilot seat, and I sat behind him.

If you are interested, here is a video I threw together of the flight from SJU to Culebra. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hDQ0S-52k00 If nothing else, the takeoff and landing are fun to watch. If I could re-do it, I would most definitely take foam ear plugs. All four in our group had ringing ears for hours after the flight... very loud!! I tried finding some in the grocery stores for our flight home, but couldn't find any.

Yep. 25 pounds. 60 cents per pound over. If your purse is big and the flight is full, everything is going to get weighed.

In terms of honesty, Air Flamenco is da bomb. If they have to put your bag on the next flight (or the next) (or the next), your stuff is perfectly safe. Sometimes bags will get bumped for perishables headed to the restaurants.

Relax and don't worry about it (and don't pack so much - you can get by with much less than you think you can).

Happy Diving!

Thanks guys. You're right! I shouldn't bring so much. And thanks for reminding me how loud it is in those puddle jumpers. I'm from Mass and sometimes have to take them over the Nantucket for work. I will bring ear plugs!!
