Restaurants for Christmas dinner?
Culebra, Puerto Rico

Hi! In less than a month I will be back in Culebra.... ahhh paradise I have missed it so. I feel it all the more after having woken up this morning to our first blanket of snow!

I would like to know if there is any news yet on who will be open for christmas dinner. We will be camping at Flamenco and we already have our rockin' ultility cart reserved for our transportation. I would like to make reservations for dinner soon, so as not to be eating hotdogs on the beach with our children their first Christmas away from home.

Aside from dinner on the 25th I am also still working on transportation from SJU to the ferry. We usually rent a car, but this time we will only be on Culebra so its not worth it. I have left messages for John's Publico as well as another driver that was recommended but sill no response. Does anyone have advice? Will we be able to catch any old taxi to take us to Fajardo?

Thanks again... we're counting down the days!

Megan,

We've had good experiences with Padin's service. Ilca, who I believe is his wife, was our driver - large comfortable van. Her cell phone was 787 644 3091. They charged $65 for 4 of us, and we tipped $15.

Thank you all so much! I will call Padins....

Any news on Christmas dinner? Is there a restaurant open? I think I remember seeing on the forum mention of establishments opened for Christmas dinner, but I have as yet to see anything about this year. If someone has information let me know. : )

I'd like to make reservations soon so as not to be stuck eating camping food on the beach. ( husband won't mind but I think the kids will )

Megan, there will always be something open, as long as their are tourists and locals who will buy drinks and food. Just ask a few places when you arrive.

And to be safe, buy some groceries that you can snack on just in case.

Yikes! glad I read this today because I only have ONE da bomb left! Am ordering more but who knows when...I'll hide it back for you.

(Michael, for some reason, my email/name isn't *holding* here...I have to log in every time, and I get NO emails concerning new posts on anything I've responded to...this has gone on a few months now?)

We had Christmas dinner at Dinghy Dock last year and will probably do it again this year. They have a reasonably priced buffet. I think in the $15-20
range. The food is not that great, but I enjoyed the atmosphere. They don't take reservations and seating is on a first come first serve basis. I believe the Seabourne Club also does a Christmas dinner, but it's a lot pricier. And judging from what I've read on this site and from some personal experience, I doubt if the food is that great. My best meals in Culebra have been from the kiosks in the Flamenco Beach parking lot. Our routine has been to hike to Carlos Rosario and get a little snack from one of the kiosks. We cook our own breakfast and dinner. ¡Que diviertas Culebra!

Just thought I'd add that I've heard many times over the years from visitors who had dinner at Dinghy Dock for Christmas and raved about the quality of the food. As at Thanksgiving, and other holidays.

As well, the critique of Seabourne, like any place, sound fairly subjective. A blanket "I doubt if the food is that great" seems a bit harsh to me.

The kiosk food at the beach is delicious as well as inexpensive, but like anyplace, I've had a not so great experience or two there as well (except for the chicken and rice with peas...never had a bad one!).

Well we are planning to go to the Dinghy Dock, I called them and pretty much heard what you just said. I love the Kiosks and we plan on taking advantage of them again. If we are able to find camp stove fuel we will be cooking a few meals on the beach. All in all it stands to be the best Christmas ever! LOL

Luckily, I had LOTS of Da Bomb (thanks, Laurie!) today when Megan & son showed up. Because I had sold the last one by accident...shhhhh.

Yes thank you! However, US airways have lost our bags and we are anxiously awaiting their return. MY HOT SAUCE WAS IN THERE! At least they didn't get it at the border! ; )
Aside from that everything was perfect. Paradise! Didn't want to leave! Hopefully my luggage ( all our camping and snorkeling gear ) will be here by the 3rd.
