Camping next week
Culebra, Puerto Rico

Hello,

We are considering camping on Flamenco Jan.4th and 5th and had a few questions for the experts.

- Is it typically crowded this time of year? Is it hard to get a campsite?
- Are there bathrooms and showers?
- Are there grills?
- Is it safe to leave camping gear unattended at the campsite?
- How cold is it at night this time of year?
- Does the Ferry back to PR run on 3 kings day (jan.6th)?

Thanks,
Rich

All holiday periods are very crowded, and Three Kings is no exception.

Camp "sites" are always available. There is always a place to pitch a tent.

Ferries run daily no matter what (except during bad weather).

There are stone grills, but not nearly one for each tent, especially with holiday crowds.

Safety is very good, but incidents can happen. Especially during a holiday period.

Temperature is just about the same year round. Same with water temp.

There are flush toilets and one set of working outdoor showers (out in the open and the water is not heated).

Is there any electricity available? Just curious if there is any place to plug in a pump to quickly blow up an air mattress or to charge a camera battery.

There is no electricity other than the campground office. Once they let me recharge my Blackberry there.

The set of showers by the parking lot always seem to be working. The ones at the far end of the campground (Section E) rarely work. (Maybe they've fixed them by now... miracles can happen!)

There are plenty of bathrooms, at least one in each section. Bathrooms have four toilets, each toilet in it's own little (very little) room with a door.

Thanks for the up-date on facilities Mort.

Last year my friends and I watched in horror as one bathroom (toilet room)in E was being cleaned - the cleaning person dipped the broom into the toilet and then used the broom to scrub the toilet seat and walls; then the broom was used to sweep floor detrius (sp???) outside - OSHA approved cleaning?...but maybe this is the standard in some vacation places or training is not provided. We did talk with our friend who worked at the campground to report what we witnessed. Perhaps there has been changes in cleaning practice.

Some might say I'm germ-phobic yet keeping my heath and a having a happy vacation-time is my goal. I'm gonna remember to wear shoes, wear shoes, wear shoes at all times...and wash my hands a lot. That's about me.

The behatted bearded man at the front graciously turned section E's showers on for us after having been camping for 4 days ( I think we began to stink). Its COLD.... very very cold.... if you shower do it while the sun is still shinning. The temperature at night is perfect.... a sheet will suffice... no sleeping bags needed.

You can pick up a 'camp shower' at Superette Mayra's. It holds two gallons of water...let it heat up during the day and wa la, you have a nice warm shower when YOU want it!
