Beware of Zoni Cabin Retreat and question
Culebra, Puerto Rico

We booked through Vacation Planners the Zoni Cabin Retreat in the beginning of September, only to discover TODAY, at the last minute, that the owners decided to stay there themselves and we are stuck with no accommodation! After reserving 5 months in advance!

The people at Vacation Planners are trying to help but there are limited offerings so close to our dates and with our limited budget our options look nothing like the secluded, spacious retreat off Zoni beach we were dreaming about for so long. We are so upset and disappointed!

All we can do now is warn others so they don't fall in this trap like we did. If anyone knows of a cabin-like apartment that's fairly secluded and close to a beach and has a kitchen, a queen bed and is spacious, for less than $100 a night (I know, what are the odds) please let us know. We're coming to Culebra Jan. 9th-16th (dates which we based on the availability of the Zoni cabin but now we can't change our flight).

Thanks,
Tali

Here's a tip for a last minute rental if you don't mind not being right on the beach and you're fit enough to walk up a steep windy street. It's about a 7 minute walk to downtown Culebra. Myrna, the owner of Villa Patria, rents two very clean and modern efficiency apartments. The neighborhood is quiet and you will have a beautiful view of the harbor from the deck. You can contact her (787) 396-2477or (787) 742-3576 or villapatria@yahoo.com. I think the rent is about $75 a night.

We stayed there last year and are staying there again this year.

Suerte

Cristina

I sure hope you get some free accomodations...I can understand how hard it is for the owners to want to leave Culebra(such a great place).but it is poor business sense to go back on a prior commitment.
Thanks for sharing your dilemma.

There is no such thing as a bad vacation. Some are just better than others.

Good luck Tali ... this same thing happened to us a few years ago when the owner of a different property did the same thing! All I can say is that Vacation Planners worked their tails off to get us another spot during the busy February vacation week. It worked out just great for us and I am sure it will work out for you too.

Thanks Frank. Actually I managed to find a place without their help. They were nice (to a point) but ineffective. Thanks everyone for the information!

As the unofficial head of the even-more unofficial committee to determine the perfect (yet sadly unofficial) marketing slogan for Culebra, the following decision has been rendered:

Out: Culebra. Open Some Days, Closed Others.

In: Culebra. Nice, But Ineffective.

Remember our goal: Marketing that draws very few people to the island except those that will stand a chance of "getting it". :-)

Frank

ps -- The committee's announcement has nothing to do with MJ threatening legal action over copyright infringement over the use of the old slogan which is also painted on her cart. That's just a coincidence.

Nah, Michael, some will take that as a challenge! I like it...two incredibly boring words...nice & ineffective.

And Frank, you know I never EVER threaten...I promise ;) Anyway, it's the unofficial slogan of Culebra for those who like that sort of thing...in a nice, ineffective sort of way.

Oops, meant to add, Tali, that's truly a rotten thing that happened and I'm so glad you 1) found another place and 2) have such a good attitude about it, despite your disappointment and frustration. I'd still be stamping my little foot. Good for you, and hoping your time here will be excellent.
