San Juan to Fajardo
Culebra, Puerto Rico

I'm going from San Juan to Fajardo to catch the ferry to Vieques. I've heard the Publico costs about $80 one-way for this trip. Is that accurate? It's pretty expensive for a ground ride. Thank you

It is correct. The lowest I've heard is $65, but most are around $80. The good thing is that it usually doesn't matter how many people are in the van. (We had 7 plus a zillion bags... a true bargain for $80!)

Hola!
I also think it is a good price considering that it is for however many people fit in the van, plus your bags, plus the driver picks up all of you and your bags at the airport at whatever terminal you come out of and drives you directly to the ferry terminal in Fajardo, helps you unload your bags and directs you exactly where you have to go and take the ferry, can also purchase your ferry tickets in advance at no additional cost, can also stop on the way to Fajardo to get something to eat because now a days the airlines don't serve anything to eat on the plane and by the time you get to the airport in San Juan you're starving and at least the driver can stop for you to get a morsel in your stomach and not pass out in his van....., LOL!!!!!! WOW that was a lot. Anyway , I think $65-80 is reasonable. Happy travels! J

First of all the "publico" you're talking about is a taxi. A publico in PR means public transportation like a bus. The first year I went to Culebra I booked a taxi in advance and we were met at the airport. The second time I used a different company who cancelled on me at the last minute. From that experience I can tell you that just about any taxi you see on the curb at the airport will happily bring you to Fajardo. There's pretty much a set price with little room for negotiation. I can't remember what I paid last year, but it is certainly in the $65-80 range. The cab driver will also be very happy to meet you in Fajardo on your way back and will give you his cell # to call or you can just tell him the time you will be on the ferry and he will be there. I am fluent in Spanish, but most people in the tourist business speak enough English to get by.

For not much more money, plus a huge savings in time and inconvenience, why not fly to Vieques?
