Day Trip?
Culebra, Puerto Rico

Hi,
I have been traveling to San Juan for the past 6 months for business. My wife is flying to San Juan this weekend for a little relaxation. We were thinking about going to Culebra on Sunday. Is it worth going for just one day? Is it feasible to get to the island in the morning and get back to San Juan in the evening, or should we plan to stay overnight? Thanks, Chris

Yes, it is feasible. But in my opinion it's not worth it unless perhaps if you fly. The whole ferry portion takes at least two hours each way (including getting there a minimum of 30 minutes ahead... and that can be risky).

And that is IF you are already in Fajardo. If you need to get from SJ to Fajardo, add at least an hour each way.

Not to mention getting around once you're on Culebra.

So you're probably talking about nearly 7 hours of travel just to spend a few hours on the island.

Just not worth it.

If you fly from SJ, however, that gives you a lot more time on the island, of course. But you'll pay for the privelege.

Hola!
Of course flying is awesome, the view, you get there in record time of less than half an hour but, you'd miss so much. On the ferry, there are many opportunities to take pics, talk to the locals, see dolphins on the way and all for $2.25. If you have spent so much time away from your wife, in my opinion there is no better way to tell her how much you have missed her and love her than to take a day or two and spend it on one of the most beautiful places in Puerto Rico, maybe the world. Consider it as a second honeymoon and score BIG points with her as you whisk her away for R & R, as well as some big time LOVE fest, LOL!!!! Remember, Puerto Rico does it better but , only you can make it happen. Happy travels! J
PS No problem getting around in Culebra, Take a publico, walk, bike or hitch hike with a local. Done it before, live simple, live green, have fun!

I don't think you'll 'get' Culebra jetting over. There are great beaches you can drive to from San Juan without the stress of getting to another island. If you have several days and you really want to kick back - come by all means!!

Enjoy Culebra!

Definitely he should go to Culebra. But he's asking if he should go there and back in one day. I recommend against that.

Two days is a no brainer, though!
