Hola! If you're at Flamenco, no problem, there are about 4-6 kiosks selling all kinds of things to eat at the beach entrance: chicken on a stick, rice and beans, all kinds of fritters, stewed meat, etc. All kinds of drinks from pina colada to colas, I don't know about beer or other alcoholic beverages. No worries about going hungry at Flamenco. That's also a holiday weekend, El dia de la Constitucion de Puerto Rico, Constitution Day, July 25. There may be A LOT of people. Watch out for the masses because this might mean that food runs out early, so get your fill before everybody else does. I don't think there are food vender's at the other beaches, you may want to go to any of the bakeries or grocery stores and pick up some things to take with you if you're headed for any other beach besides Flamenco. Happy travels! J

Yen, just go into town and look around and ask around. There are lots of options.

At El Patio Panaderia, next to the airport, or at Pandeli's across from the Methodist Church, you can get delicious sandwiches, like juevo, jamon y queso and Cubanos made with fresh bread toasted in sandwich presses. These are under $5.00 and feed 2, unless you are starved. El Eden, near Joe's Frozen Hielo makes great deli sandwiches using baked on premisis artisan breads.

You HAVE to go to 'Juanita Bananas' for dinner. a great outdoor/indoor space on a small hill right in downtown Dewey. They do great sushi and conch fritters and it's so relaxing to sit outside on the massive deck. The service is also excellent. Also, Mamacita's does great steak as well as other stuff in a relaxing water-side setting.

Do you mean a "dichotomy" or a paradox? (Also known as two physicians.)

Richard.... Yen is just asking how to bring a sandwich to a beach that doesn't sell food (meaning any beach other than Flamenco). I think it's a fair question. Maybe he just has a "yen" for our advice! Bwahahahahaha.

I've seen a couple of Cubanos around town, but they were poor imitations, exceot for at La Tropicana down on Lindenwood in the Southtown neighborhood. The secret is fresh loaves in the sandwich press. The only weakness is, they use pickles instead of sliced yucca. I might let you buy me one of those so we can see if they measure up...

Mort - that is the spirit of Yen's post, but not the letter. (sorry, I post from Lawyertown).

I've become so ticky about grammar lately, I don't yell at kids if the ball lands in my yard, but have a verb/noun disagreement? whoa.

and don't even get me started on the overuse of adverbs. (Actually, don't get me really started on the actually, truly overused adverbs that can actually be used to the point where they actually become meaningless) and I actually mean that.

and not even in any way figuratively. I blame Reese Witherspoon's screenwriters.

Yen: you will find many options in addition to the ones posted here.

I like el Batey despite the usual wait. It's still there right?

Yep. I think Digna sold it, though. Particularly fine for burgers; I've never tried anything else, there.

I understand, Richard! Sounds like you're LITERALLY DYING to get people to reinstate the good ol' English language. (heh heh)

I am very proud to say that I had the very last cheeseburger served at El Batey before the original owners sold it several years ago. It wasn't intentional on my part, but happened to work out that way. One of my favorite Culebra moments.

It is also my understanding that the best cheeseburger spot in the world was re-purchased by the original owners/family within the last year or so. Digna was most certainly there last February, that I know.

The interim owners seemed nice enough but it just wasn't the same ... one thing I noticed is that the beer is much colder under Digna's watchful eye. :-)

Mort: of course if a person for whom English is a second language, I have no criticisms. Ask me for the fourth declension of a Latin verb - just try! you'll be very disappointed.

Doug, yeah I've only had the burgers at el Batey too, never, ever sorry. I hope the new owners keep it right.

Richard, did you get a kick out of me using "literally", which is probably the most inappropriately used adverb of all time?

I think that since the original question in this thread was so easily handled (just go into town and buy a sandwich), we should instead expound mightily on the abuses of modern grammar.

Mort: I did, virtually.

ok this thread has become silly and I apologize to those seeking real information.

I hope the OP found the answer sought. there are many options and almost all are hard to miss.

Digna is back at El Batey; it's open for lunch & dinner now...and she still makes the best burger I've ever had except for the ones Dad made! That, actually, is literally true.

Save What's Left!
