Brava or Resaca?
Culebra, Puerto Rico

If you could only choose one, which one would you go to?

I have been to Resaca, wondering if Brava is worth seeing also.

How is the hike to Brava compared to Resaca?

Thanks

The easier question to answer is comparing the hikes.

Resaca is a steep, strenuous climb that will help you work up a sweat even if you are in decent shape. After you drive up to the parking area (follow the road behind the airport) you hike DOWN to the beach. Of course to get back, you hike UP. It's a workout.

Brava's hike is more leisurely. There are some hills to be sure, but it nowhere near as steep as the Resaca climb.

As far as choosing between the two ... flip a coin. They are both spectacular.

The hike back from Resaca is one of the reasons we haven't been there. We're on vacation? Why exert ourselves? LOL! One day. . .

Brava, the day I was there, was too dangerous to swim. I imagine it's like that a good deal of the time, as well as Resaca. Is this a fact?

Happy Diving!

I'm no expert but swimming at either beach looked like a dangerous proposition.

Definitely. As Garp cautioned, watch out for the undertoad.

When I was in Culebra in March, I went to both beaches the same day! Resaca seems more remote due to the difficulty of the hike...You will probably not see more than a handful of other people, if anyone, at either. Brava is clearly more accessable (a flat dirt path through the "woods"). If you have already been to Resaca, then the choice is simple...go to Brava. You will see that they are quite different but fairly equally spectacular. The rock formations to the right as you enter the beach are quite picturesque. Walking to the left you will find several groups of palms to serve as cover from the sun in the afternoon. As for the water and surf issues, it depends on the day. The day I was there it was approachable to go in to the water to get wet and refreshed but I did not venture out past the depth of my height. I wish I was there right now! I have pictures if you e-mail me.
