Weather in September
Culebra, Puerto Rico
Author: julian hallmark (---.bendbroadband.com)

My fiance and I are getting married in late august. I have been to Culebra before, and loved it. We were wondering if it is too hot in early september to be in Culebra? Also, are the mosquitos worse at that time of year? My girl is a magnet for mosquitos and I worry that she wouldn't enjoy herself.
Having said that, were looking for a house to stay at, somewhere very close to Zoni Beach? Any ideas?
Thanks in advance for all your help, Julian

It is still hot in September during the day but, always cools down at night. Nowadays, the weather is kind of unpredictable. This week there were some really HOT days when only last week it was colder in the central parts of the island and they even got hail. You'll be by the coast so no worries abut the heat, constant breeze assured. September is supposed to be one of the more rainier months. It's right in the middle of hurricane season, please have a back up plan. You might want to have travel insurance for this. Mosquitos will be dwindling down but have bug spray at hand if your prone to getting bit. Couple places to stay in Zoni, maybe advice from other FORUM writers? You can look up comments by searching in the Forum or can call Vacation Planners...............742-3112, some have commented that they are good at finding people a place to stay. Happy travels! J

The average air and water temperature is virtually the same year round. Check weather.com for the details.

August is in hurricane season, so there's always that risk. But the odds are very much against it.

Hi Julian,

I know of this place night near Zoni Beach. The owners are friends of family from back in the states but they moved to Culebra probably close to 15 years ago. They're really great people and very helpful (Call Bonnie). The place is large, clean, very relaxing. I'm traveling to the island in a couple months and can't wait to stay there. Check it out http://www.vrbo.com/151448

God hear you, Mort. Last hurricane to hit Puerto Rico was George in 1998. We go to the beach in the Gulf area when we can't make it to PR. Ivan and Katrina hit us bad. Praying that it will be a good season for all of us. Happy travels! J

Jeannie, I'll use what influence I have to protect Culebra along with the Tampa Bay area.

Hmm, I didn't know Bonnie and Sam were renting their place out. But, I can vouch for it - great house, lots of space and nice breezes.

Happy Diving!

My experience is that Septemeber in this part of the Caribbean is HOT! June-Oct are the hottest months. Having said that, generally the water is warmer, too. I find it hot at night as well.

Mosquitos in the tropics are a year-round thing. If it rains, a few days later there tend to be more. If there is a breeze (more likely in the winter months) then the wind tends to keep them at bay a bit.

My sister is a mozzie magnet as well & wears a cream, which contains a higher level deet. We recently had a guest that swore that taking B vitamin a few days before her travels & daily while traveling helped.

Again, in my experience, November has been a rainier month than September.

Having said all this we got married 2 islands away from Culebra (same temps/etc.) in August & had a great time.

Congrats on your upcoming wedding!
Terrie
