How much would taking my car be?
Culebra, Puerto Rico

Does anyone have an estimated on how much would it cost taking my car to Culebra through the ferry? Does our tickets costs the same as the passenger only ferry? I know it depends in the car, but I was wondering if anyone had an idea. I'll be going with my husband. We'll be driving from Ponce in our Ford Explorer.

It has been shared on this board that it is wise not to take a car over on the Ferry. You must have reservations in advance and you may find yourself unable to get on the ferry even with the best of reservations. It is best to leave the car in Fajardo and rent one from one of the rental places on Culebra. Do a search for Jerry's Jeeps. He is a good guy to work with.

There is no such thing as a bad vacation. Some are just better than others.

This person is talking about taking her OWN car over from Ponce, unless I'm reading this wrong. I don't know about making reservations from the Fajardo end, but people from PR bring their cars over all of the time...it's much easier when it's slow over here to be sure you get a reservation.
I think the most anyone I know has paid is something like 35 bucks for their car...assuming you don't have a delivery truck sized vehicle. Just call the ferry folks and see what they say. Again, slow time makes a big difference as residents have priority over visitors.

Hola Marlene! I hope this is not too late, you did write 2 weeks ago...
If it's a rental car, you can't take it on the ferry, your rental contract prohibits it. If it's your personal car you can take it but must make a reservation for it way in advance. I read today that it is recommended that you make the reservation 3 weeks ahead but, I remember last year when I was trying to buy my ferry tickets in advance (over the phone), Fajardo Port Authority said the cargo ferry was booked for the next 2 months. As MJ mentioned, Culebra residents get priority over anyone else. Call ahead and have a back up plan. There is always a mode of transportation in Culebra, even if it means walking. I've read that the fee for taking your vehicle is $15 but it may be more and you probably have to pay for your own ticket. These are Fajardo Port Authority #"s: 787-801-0250, 0251, Ext. 221, 222, 230, 234. Happy travels! J
