A travel challenge for you "veterans"!!
Culebra, Puerto Rico

First I'd like to say "I love Puerto Rico, I love Vieques and I love Culebra!" These forums have always been helpful to me when planning the "perfect" trip. I think I've tried just about every means of transportation to and from both islands, but this year finances are a bit tighter (you know the attitude...don't care I'm going anyway!) which translates into publico to Fajardo and ferry more, toy airplane less. So, put your thinking caps on; here's my agenda, all you have to do is fill in the transportation blanks: There will be three of us; myself and two teenagers traveling in mid April. Arriving SJU 11:50am on a Friday. Must get to Vieques. Possibilities: 1) Taxi($15) to Isla Grande, fly directly to Vieques or to Fajardo & then take ferry to Vieques. 2) Taxi to Fajardo (yikes!! $80??) then either fly or ferry. 3) Publico to Fajardo (cheap, but time consuming) then fly or ferry. 4)Rent a car at airport for one-way, same-day rental. This seemed less expensive in past years (approx. $50) but I'm getting quite a few higher price quotes now for some reason. After 3 1/2 days on Vieques we're moving on to Culebra for 5 days. Is the jury still out on a ferry from Vieques to Culebra?? We may have to fly this time. How much is that flight? After 5 days on Culebra it's back to San Juan for the last 3 days in Isla Verde/Old San Juan. From Culebra to Fajardo to San Juan there is no rush so a ferry fits in here. I would love to do the car rental here and stop at El Yunque to hike to the higher falls. I have no need for a car while in San Juan so this would also be a one-way, same-day rental. Only other choices are publico again and save more cash or fly back to Isla Grande airport (even more expensive now because we will be joined by one more teen while on Culebra). We are not in a rush because there is no flight home to catch on that travel day (how smart!) I'm sure I could figure this out myself, but it's always so helpful to hear it from the travel veterans like yourself. Thanks!

Hi Joanne,

I'm not sure I know what you're asking for. You have all the pricing. It sounds like you want us to advise you on how much money you should want to spend and which mode of transportation would be most comfortable/convenient for you. At this point, these are personal choices.

And if money is a big issue, why go to Vieques at all? The more islands that are involved, the more the cost.

I'm confused, sorry!

To answer your question, there is no ferry between Vieques & Culebra.
