Distance to and from Camp area "E"
Culebra, Puerto Rico

Who knows the walking time from area E to the showers and "other facilities". You never know when a late night need may occur, ya know what I mean?

Thanks Owlihoot2.....At my age, I was thinking I may have a concern...but I think 2 minutes is manageable.

I think that Owlihoot might be remembering things optimistically. Either that or she must hold some speedwalking records!

We stayed in E for the past two weeks and timed the walk. It's approximately 7-8 minutes. It's a bit of a hike. But we didn't mind.

We ended up preferring walking the beach route rather than the road.

The distance helped make our vacation even more "physical" than it would have been otherwise. We all felt that the walk made it a much more enjoyable and active vacation for us.

And when you see E in person versus, say A, B or C, you'd be willing to walk TWICE the distance! LOL.

Addition to what I posted immediately above...

Herb, I just realized that you might have been asking about the distance to the bathrooms.

There is a bathroom (with 4 flush-toilet stalls) in the E area. A very short walk from any spot in E.

And there are two very large water cisterns, from which you can get water for "bucket showers" if you don't want to walk the 7-8 minutes to the campground entrance area.

ah yes Mort, you are correct in guessing my motives for my question. It is also entirely possible that Owlihoot2 may have been thinking the same also. Quite frankly, I dont see any emergencies concerning showers, but I can see one with a late night "potty break" and you have assuaged my fears completely.

thanks a million
Herb

by the way, how was the weather at night and how did you dress?

Herb, the nights were quite warm. We brought fleece sleeping bag liners and there was only one night where I was a bit chilly at 4am... But I was sleeping without a shirt.

The rest of the nights I rarely put the fleece over me except maybe in the "coldest" part of the night.

Be sure to bring long pants and socks, though, just for the bugs. The no-see-ums really can get you.

By the way, one of the smartest things we brought was rash guard shirts. Fantastic for snorkeling, body surfing, or even just walking around. We used them daily. They keep the sun off and make the water slightly warmer, though the water is just about perfect in any case.

In process right now to make a fitted sheet for my sleeping pad and hope that just the fleece throw on top will suffice, as it did last time. I'll be taking my shorty wetsuit for swimming ease/warmth, sun protection and added bouyancy. I found some UV rated long sleeve button-up shirts too - where I live they've never heard of rash-guard shirts.

Are citronnella candles available this year? Where?

There were citronella candles at Milkas grocery store, as I recall. Either there or at Superette Myra. The brand was Off, and the fumes didn't react well with me (though the rest of the family didn't seem to mind). If there's a brand you like, I'd bring it with you.

Rash guard shirts are great. Here is the online store where we bought ours. They have long sleeve ones, too.

Hello everyone. New to the forum. I've never camped but stayed at the villas once. Great memories. My kids have camped. They love it. Hope you enjoy your stay.
Mort I noticed you have a Tampa address. I was born and raised in PR but have lived in Tampa since 1996 this time around. First lived here from 1977 to 1983. USF alumnus.

Welcome, Victor! I've been in Tampa Bay for five years (Clearwater). I like it very much.

Culebra is my favorite place on Earth, and perhaps the entire galaxy. I need to do more research.
