Holy Week Crowds
Culebra, Puerto Rico

3 questions:

1. How crowded does it really get during Holy week? Is it still worth coming to Culebra if this is the only time I can come? and if so will I be able to get a campsite, ferry, etc... without too much trouble?

2. How long do the passenger and car ferries take to get to the island from Fajardo?

3. Would it be a bad idea to try to take the late ferry (7:00pm) and still try to get set up at a campsite on Flamenco that night?

Thanks,

Andy

I was there about five years ago during Holy Week. It was very crowded and places ran low on menu items etc. We did enjoy the parade through town during that week. We didn't feel the beaches were over crowed. We did not take the ferry that week as planned because we were told they were very crowded and we weren't sure we would get a seat at the time we wanted to get to the island.

There is no such thing as a bad vacation. Some are just better than others.

My understanding is that Holy Week is the week before Easter. This year - the 15-23 of March.

I also just talked to someone on the island who has been there during that time who told me that it is not worth coming during that week. He said it is very crowded in the campsites and dangerous because of all the people there for spring break. He said that the police don't even go into the campgrounds during that week if there is a problem and that people will be partying all day and night.

Can anyone else confirm this or tell me otherwise. I am looking for a quieter vacation with my girlfriend.

Thanks,

Andy

Again, when we were there five years ago during Holy Week I do remember police with police dogs greeting the ferries. Not sure if that was standard for spring break/Holy Week as we had never seen that before on previous visits.
