camping at Playa Flamenco - what do you do with gear during the day?

Hi, I am planning to camp at Playa Flamenco for a couple nights. What do I do with my camping gear during the day -- must I carry it around with me or is there a place to lock it up? Though I have heard it is very, very safe to camp, I have also heard, don't leave anything unattended (which makes good sense pretty much anywhere). Thanks!

Leave your tent up and your gear zipped inside. We also hang things from the trees or bushes - hammocks, towels, swim suits, snorkel gear, cook stuff etc. & have chairs, coolers, & foodstuffs about the site. Section D is family friendly - usually some sharing of foods & gear as well as watching out for each other's 'space & stuff' happens in a natural fashion once you meet your camping neighbors. Have fun.

Hi there! Thanks for your reply! Everything was wonderful...a newish ranger (has been working there for 9 months) told us that there have been no thefts *AT ALL* in the time he has worked there! Yes, everyone was friendly and open, it's a fabulous and special place!

Owlihoot, I recall that you also sometimes use a secret burial method. But that you accidentally left your valuables out one day (forgetting to re-bury them) and they STILL weren't taken by anyone. Am I remembering correctly?

Is Section D the very last section?

Mort , You are correcto mundo -

how wonderful that you remember how I left lots of valuable right out in the open - then ran off to play or buy chick-on-a-stick - or go to town - and when I returned I frowningly saw that my spot of burial had been breached, then saw the valuable, right where I'd left it.

So Christene - which section did you camp? Was the storm upon you? Or is it yet to come?

And Mort - your families' time to camp is soon in coming?

Yes, Owlihoot... we'll be there on Wednesday! We are soooooo excited.

It's a shame that we'll miss you by a couple weeks. If you like, I can bury something and leave it for you! It won't be very valuable, though!

Sorry to say, I can't remember the ranger's name (shame on me, he was so nice and genuine, and he even helped us when we were clueless about setting up the new tent without the instructions .. okay, so I haven't had that many tents in my life...) We ended up in A just for wanting to put down my 35 lb backpack. Same as you described D, very friendly, family-oriented. The very same ranger advised us to avoid C, the party section, and to consider E because it is a bit hidden away and closer to the beach itself. When I looked at it later I thought it ideal, but I did not have the wherewithal to move at that point -- so I will save that for another trip!

We were rained upon heartily on Saturday night, but the tent kept us dry! Hooray! After that there wasn't much rain at a time, just a bit cloudy.

C - It's just as we've been told - nice, helpful and friendly still. Good to hear your report. Did you see the fresh water turtles? Any snakes? Rats?
How about those big handsome lizard things?

One night we were sitting on the beach under the stars - some folks were playing music and I just leaned back when, yikes it felt like my sitting part was being tickled; oh no it's just my imagination. Then it happened again -well I happened to be sittting on a small crabs hole and it wanted to come out under the stars too.

Mort - I hope you all have a grand time and sorry to miss you. Less than a week to go before your arrival now.

What shall you bury and how will I find it? oh yes - a 'treasure map' might work....hummmm...to be left where. Oh - I do hope it will be treasure? We do like trash though as I've told you; dumpster diving extrordinaire at Playa Flamenco! You could send a treasure map just to my e-mail address. How's that sound to you?

that could turn into a fun scavenger hunt sort of game. purposely complicated.

clues could be left on and off shore (eco-friendly 'course) and maybe with no real prize.

esp. if it took a few years to figure out the f#$%&r...

As to animal creatures, no to all the above (including no rats nor snakes). Keep in mind, I did not go looking for the turtles or 'handsome lizard things' though it would have been nice to see them. I did see the white crabs!
