Flight into Culebra
Culebra, Puerto Rico

Good Morning,
I know I have posted before and am getting a bit frustrated as to what to do. We have been to Culebra several times and have flown in on Isla Nena with no problems what so ever. I have read on this board that they are not as reliable. My problem is that friends of ours are flying into Luis Munoz on Friday, Feb. 8th and their flight gets in (if on time) at 2:30 and wouldn't have time to go to Isla Grande for a flight over. We are flying in of Feb. 6th late and could go to the smaller airport in the morning for a flight and no problem flying back into the smaller airport on Feb. 16th and cabbing it over. Any suggestions. Someone said Air Flamenco flies in the winter from the big airport, but I cannot find any info. confirming that.
Thanks for all your help with this and in the past.
Tricia

There is no such thing as a bad vacation. Some are just better than others.

My flight arrived at SJU at 1:30, I took a cab to Isla Grande, then had a 4:30 flight to Culebra on Air Flamenco. I would think a 2:30 arrival would make a 4:30 flight on Air Flamenco, but of course, the best thing to do is call. I think, but am not really sure, that the flights all depend on how many people want to go at any given time. Also try Air Vieques if you're not comfortable with Isla Nena, but I haven't heard anything negative about Isla Nena. Good luck and don't worry!

Bosie - good instincts, the flight times definitely vary according to demand. I don't care anymore, but when with first timers it's interesting to see who gets steamed over delays.

We have landed as late as 3:30 - 3:45 and still made it over to Isla Grande for the 4:30 flight. On that same particular day, we landed late AND there was a cab strike AND we made it.

You need to call Air Flamenco, rather than relying on their website.

Happy Diving!
Debbie

A guestamate price on the trip from SJU to Isla Grande? We've never flown into Culebra before, we've always taken a car over on the ferry. We're trying something new this time!!!!

Kim,
The taxi ride from San Juan airport to Isla Grande airport is $15 + tip. It takes about 15 minutes to get there. The round trip airfare from Isla Grande to Culebra was $100 round trip when I went in September. Things can always change. You'll love the flight!

This seems to be a constant point of discussion...would be nice if it could be a post that is kept near the top so that the scrolling need could be kept at a minimum...new developments on rates and flight info could be updated on that post as well to keep things current.

wouldn't we all like a place near the top ;)

I like the idea and will let it sink in. The implementation is always trickier than it seems ..

Enjoy Culebra!

It would help if the carriers WANTED the public to be informed. I think they hate to publish much because it creates expectations. Anyway, a great tool would be for them to publish a timetable/ratecard on their site that travel blogs such as this could embed. I know. I'm smoking crack!

Thought you were free and clear of that junk Doug...Im very dissapointed. but seriously...the rate info and such doesnt even need to be dynamic on the post but rather just something to where the numbers are listed for who to call and some stories on experiences. is there no way to make that a sticky post on the top that doesnt get pushed down the list?

I did make a permanent link in the transport section to a search with the terms "flight, Culebra and San Juan" - I hope this way people will find their way to the most recent ins and outs of flying to Culebra!

Enjoy Culebra!

I had no problems with Isla Nena. They are a very small carrier without their own manned station at the San Juan airport, but as instructed on the phone I simply met the pilot at the airport in the area of the other domestic carriers about an hour before my flight.
