11 People for a Day
Culebra, Puerto Rico

I will be visiting PR next month with my family (11 people ranging from 1 year to 56 years old). We are thinking of taking a day trip to Culebra. We are really into beaches and snorkling. Would this be worth a day trip? Would we have to rent a car, or is there enough to do (beaches, eating, snorkling, etc) within walking distance of the ferry?

Ferry is anigthmare on summer weekwnds and hollydays. Plane trips are well worth it. Take a pubic transport to flamenco beach. It is a hole day affair definitively. If going by ferry be there for the first ferry 3 to four hours erly. Book planes since now ! There are fligths from San j
Juan and from Fajardo.

Paradise is not a place you can look for. Is how you feel for a moment in yor life. Whe you find that moment it will last for ever.

I dunno about 11 people for a day trip, the main island has lots of good beaches as is. it's not that big of a place.

never done the ferry myself, but unless you really enjoy the boat time, I see disaster with the young ones trying to do a quick over and back.

I dunno. I see large families from the main island debark every day for a day at Flamenco. Admittedly they have experience and know all the drills to do it, but that's what this board is for, eh? The point to carry here is that July is a huge month for Culebra hosting main island PR folks and planning ahead and arriving early is a major factor in enjoying your day at the beach. With that large a group, better plan to use the publico and head for Flamenco. It'd take 2-3 jeeps to haul that many and they aren't cost effective. You can eat at the kioskos adjacent to the beach and most of the time, snorkling is pretty decent. For group members whose primary purpose is snorkling, they may wish to hike over the hill and spend a couple hours at Carlos Rosario.

true Doug, but my feeling is that baby-wrangling is enough on its own w/o the added issues of transport and transfers from ferry to Publico and back. esp. during a busy time. In my book it's just not worth it for a couple of (net) beach hours.

but that's just my child-less perspective.

for 11 people in Fajardo, I'd think chartering a boat to just go out to an uninhabited cayo or 2 might be more fun.
