Crowds in Culebra beaches close to July 4th
Culebra, Puerto Rico

My wife, 1 year old, in laws and I will be in the island end of June beginning of July and would like to visit Culebra. I’m very worried about the trip, mostly because of the crowds and traffic. We’ve debated what day would be best given the circumstances and we’ve though that Friday June 29th would probably be ok. Does anyone know what the beaches will be like? will people be swarming the beaches around this time? Is there a lot of camping going on? I’ll appreciate any insight.
Thanks
Angel

Gracias
Ángel

Angel,

July is one of the busiest holiday months for Culebra. There will be lots of campers; mostly local kids from Puerto Rico coming over for the weekend. If you go on the 29th, you should try to get the earliest ferry that you can (9:00 am). Same thing returning; I would suggest the 6:30 am ferry off of Culebra; it's inconvenient, but if you wait until any later, you and your family could be standing in line in the hot sun for a long time. I hope this helps.

Happy Diving!
Debbie

We were in Loquillo on the big island the last of June through the first week in July last year. The beach behind Playa Azul, where we stayed, was packed from Friday morning all the way through Monday morning. This was a 72+ hour party. No camping, but music all night, portable game tables, tents, table and chairs, etc. We were there for St. John Baptiste weekend and the 4th. Whole families, including dogs were there for hours and having a blast. Puerto Ricans are very family oriented, which we thought was great. Have a wonderful vacation.

I suggest you arrive very early to the Ferry dock in Fajardo cause on weekends it gets crowded (lots of ppl that want to go camping)... Anything later than 7am and you will have the risk of not making the 9am trip.. Trust me i've gone to Culebra on days like these and i ended up traveling in the cargo ferry..I got there at 7:30 am and left on the Cargo Ferry close to 1pm There were people there at 6am and some of them didnt make it..

Also 2 days ago in the Newspaper and article came out saying that there are 2 of the Ferries(one for Vieques and 1 to Culebra) that are broken /on repair.. so there are less boats to take you there.

You have a better chance by going between Monday and Thursday
